Bergen County Debate Full Time Head Coach (6/7/18)

Full-time Head Coach, Fort Lee, NJ (NY Metropolitan Area)

Bergen Couty Debate Club is looking for an experienced debate instructor with a track record of success coaching high school teams in a variety of different formats, including but not limited to Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas. We offer excellent annual compensation, paid vacation, and a relocation benefit for qualified candidates.

Job Type: Full-time

Responsibilities include:
– Teaching and coaching students in competitive Public Forum/Lincoln-Douglas/Student Congress.
– Delivering our proprietary curriculum to novice, junior, and varsity level classes.
– Working with the travel team to prepare for competitions.
– Traveling to 3-5 tournaments per semester locally in NYC/NJ or on the EastCoast to coach BCDC teams and serve as a judge if needed.

Required education and experience:
-Bachelor’s Degree
-Debate Coaching: 2+ years or similar experience
-Qualifying as a debater to TOC/NSDA Nationals, CEDA Nationals or having a team qualify for one of the national tournaments in the past is a plus.

Annual salary range from $40K-$45K, includes 10 weeks of paid time off.

Northview Job Posting (3/27/18)

Northview High School Debate Team in Johns Creek, GA is actively seeking a reliable and motivated debate professional to co-coach our team and be a teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. Teaching position will likely be in Language Arts, but there may be other subject areas available.

This position is primarily a teaching position at a top-ranked high school that has need of an experienced debate coach.  Candidates must have graduated from accredited 4 year college and must currently hold a T-3 or higher teaching certificate.  Experience in coaching is preferred, but not required. Experience in either Policy, Public Forum or Lincoln-Douglas debate is required.

Silicon Valley Urban Debate League – Head Coach full time position

SVUDL Head Coach positions are key to the delivery, growth, and impact of the SVUDL program in our partnering high schools, helping build and implement a shared vision among all stakeholders, including youth, teachers, SVUDL staff, volunteers, and the school community. The Head Coach is responsible for teams and programming at two partner schools at a time, and is the catalyst and main point of contact of the debate team at each partner school. The Head Coach delivers debate instruction to students at their partner schools, and works with Assistant Coaches (designated teacher at each school) to recruit, develop, and sustain teams at each of the Head Coach’s partner schools, and ensures their students are actively engaged in competition opportunities. The Head Coach position of the Urban Debate League model requires a proactive, engaging, and dedicated team player who puts the needs of youth first. MPOLY (Korea Poly School) Seeking Debate Teacher

MPOLY is a language academy in Seoul that teaches a comprehensive liberal arts program wholly in English to higher level middle school students, many of whom have lived abroad. We are seeking a debate teacher to provide instruction in debate, public speaking, research and critical thinking skills to our students.

The successful candidate will teach innovatively within established curriculum and will supplement and adapt course materials as needed. They will work with other debate teachers to plan and coordinate course work as well as help prepare students for competition.

Skills/Experience/Qualifications

-Ÿ The ideal candidate has experience with debate tournaments, is an enthusiastic teacher, a team player with good communication skills, and a creative and critical thinker looking to demonstrate those skills to students.

Assistant Director of Forensics Job Description

Position Title: Assistant Director of Forensics
Reports To: Director of Fine Arts

Position Statement: To provide instructional and supervisory leadership as the Assistant Director of Forensics for a nationally competitive speech and debate program. The is a full-time position that will begin in August 2018.

Responsibilities:      
 Teach speech and debate courses at the Coconut Creek campus to middle school and upper school students
 Travel with, chaperone, coach, and fill judging commitments for students at regional and national tournaments in a variety of speech
and debate events.
 Schedule and manage regular after-school practices
 Direct research assignments and facilitate acquisition of research for student speeches.
 Read students speeches, cases, and blocks to assess for coherent messages and word economy
 Conduct drills to assess and reinforce skills development
 Nurture beginning students while challenging experienced students.
 Cooperate with administration, the Fine Arts department, the Director of Forensics, parents, and students to promote the best interests of the Speech and Debate Team.

Required Qualifications:
 Bachelor’s Degree
 Driver’s license & willingness to transport students at tournament sites
 Competitive Experience in high school or college debate events
 Willingness to relocate to South Florida to work full time Preferred Qualifications:
 Previous coaching experience in high school or college policy debate OR teaching experience at a summer speech and debate institute for high school students

 Ability to coach students of different skill levels – novice, regionally competitive varsity students, and national champions.
 Familiarity with Public Forum, Student Congress, and/or Individual Events.

Cogito is a rapidly expanding speech and debate education provider in Southern California is looking to hire coaches for High School and Middle School children in San Diego, Orange County, and LA County.

Whitman College seeks a Director of Debate/Forensics to lead its nationally-recognized Debate program within the context of a rigorous liberal arts experience. The program has been characterized historically by talented debaters, debate scholarships, seasoned coaches with significant debating experience, and strong institutional and alumni support. As a member of the College staff, the

Director will report to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, and will manage all aspects of the Debate program, including the following.
• Directing, coaching, and preparing the competitive speech and debate squad.
• Facilitating the acquisition of research material; advising on argumentation and case preparation, as well as speech preparation.
• Conducting practice and drill sessions.
• Booking tournament travel arrangements, including transportation, lodging, and meals.
• Traveling with teams to tournaments and related events; overseeing team interactions.
• Judging at evening and weekend tournaments.
• Potentially hosting public high school and college debate competitions on campus.
• Recruiting and developing student debaters of high potential.
• Recruiting and supervising debate coaches.
• Ensuring that all debate staff and team members serve as effective and responsible representatives and ambassadors of Whitman College.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Communications/Rhetoric/Argumentation; a Ph.D is preferred, with demonstrated commitment to private residential liberal arts education. Recent direct coaching and management experience in national level college forensics is required, with experience coaching parliamentary debate preferred. Experience as an exceptional college
debater in either Policy or Parliamentary will be viewed favorably. Two years or more of instructional experience at the post-secondary level are expected. Familiarity with web-enhanced instructional tools and proficiency at the Microsoft Office suite of applications are essential.

Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, oral and written communication skills are required, as is sound judgment, poise, and integrity. The ability to effectively manage debate program staff and to work successfully with diverse constituencies, including alumni, faculty, staff, students, and volunteers, individually and in committees, is critical. Must be highly organized, able to think
strategically, handle multiple tasks, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and lead programming in a professional and fiscally responsible manner.

Harmony School of Innovation

Harmony School of Innovation, in Sugar Land TX is looking for a full time debate coach for 2018-19

Students are dedicated and compete regularly on the Houston circuit, compete in mock trial, as well as host community panels and attend other leadership and speaking opportunities. The team has partnerships with Toastmasters International, Writers in the Schools/poetry slam, local attorneys, and politicians who help guide and network with our students.

Previous student enrollment was two full sections of debate 1 and one section of advanced debate (2,3,and independent study). 

Administration is amazingly supportive. Campus has a great culture with very few discipline problems. As public charter, funds, rules, and curriculum are regulated by TEA. 

Salary is comparable to other public schools in the area, and there is a stipend attached to after school practice and extra duty pay for tournaments.
