Riverdale Country School is a preK - 12 day school in New York City that combines both traditional and innovative practices to provide an excellent Liberal Arts learning environment. Riverdale seeks an experienced debate coach to develop and strengthen our fast-growing debate program. The new Director of Debate will replace our outgoing head coach, who will be available for assistance during the transition.
Currently, approximately 45 students in grades 9-12 compete in Public Forum debate at local and national tournaments. The debate program is financially stable and has strong support from the administration.
A successful candidate will have experience coaching Public Forum and will be prepared to introduce new formats of competitive debate, including Congress. This position is ideal for someone with the skills and ambition to transform a relatively new debate team into a robust, successful debate program.
Responsibilities of the Director of Debate:
Plan and supervise practice sessions on Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings during normal school hours (not after school)
Instruct and mentor assistant coaches, including faculty members with limited debate experience
Chaperone approximately 5 out-of-state tournaments and 10 local tournaments
Coordinate tournament registration and travel logistics
Develop and implement novice curriculum for students new to debate
Train experienced debaters in advanced techniques of argumentation and tournament strategy
Initiate and lead changes to the debate program that improve the team’s success and meet the goals of Riverdale students and administration

Debate Job in Korea
The Korea Debate Society (KDS), located in Daegu, South Korea, is seeking a debate coach to begin work from mid-July, 2017. This appointment will run through July 2018, and is a good opportunity for anybody between undergrad and graduate/law school, or simply wanting to experience a different culture while guiding students in their personal development as debaters. KDS offers a light class schedule with small classes of intelligent and motivated students.
Classes are held two to four days a week, giving you substantial time to prepare lessons, conduct your own affairs, and experience Korean culture (the Korean Thanksgiving and New Year holidays are also a great chance for travel around East and Southeast Asia, for which Korea is a particularly convenient base). Our students compete in the Asian Parliamentary debate format and attend two to three tournaments per year, in addition to hosting a small camp and tournament in August.
Successful applicants will have the following minimum qualifications:
• Have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university;
• Experience competing in college and/or high school debate;
• Ability to pass a criminal background check;

Sacred Heart Prep Seeks Debate CoachSacred Heart Preparatory (SHP) is a Catholic, independent, college preparatory high school located 35 miles south of San Francisco in Atherton, California. SHP possesses excellent resources and an administrative commitment to debate. The school is seeking a dynamic and innovative debate coach starting in late August of 2014 to sustain and build its growing debate program.
Responsibilities of the Sacred Heart Debate Coach entail oversight of the SHP debate program including but not limited to instruction, supervision, planning, management, and communication associated with maintaining and continually improving the program. The majority of duties occur outside of school hours (after school and on weekends). This individual will coordinate debate instruction, team preparation, and other activities associated with a top ranked program. This is a seasonal position reporting to the Principal of SHP and compensated by an hourly rate.
The SHP Debate Coach will:
- Provide basic instruction as needed in the various forms of debate and participation options for students
- Provide quality feedback and assist in development of arguments/cases and performances/speeches
- Coordinate and supervise practice debates and training sessions, providing robust feedback to improve skills. Work with students to maintain an effective practice schedule before tournaments
- Supervise weekly team meetings (twice weekly during after-school hours)
- Travel with students to and from scheduled weekend (local and bay area) tournaments (two to four each semester), providing on-site judging and coaching. Supervise students and ensure high standards of conduct. Lead reflection and revision process with students after tournaments. (SHP has vehicles, and parents are available to help drive).
- Participate in team meetings and serve as a liaison with other SHP colleagues.
- Meet with students interested in the debate program and market the activity to the student body.
- Work collaboratively with team members to shape the program and provide a high quality experience that supplements overall learning outcomes
- Other duties as assigned
The successful candidate will have a strong debate resume that reflects rich experience in teaching and coaching Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, Parliamentary, Congressional and Policy debate. The candidate should be outgoing, kid friendly, charismatic, well-organized, ready to work in a highly dynamic, youthful academic setting, with a passion for debate. The successful candidate must be willing to work with students of all experience levels, and possess a demonstrated commitment to diversity. In addition, budget, student recruitment, and administrative supervision experience are a plus. Los Angeles, California (San Gabriel Valley):
We're looking for a policy/LD coach. We have a well developed, successful debate program, mostly focused on middle school competition. We need someone with knowledge of college style policy arguments to coach our LD and Policy teams. This person should have ample competition debate experience in either Policy or LD or both. Individuals with high level high school competition experience, but limited or no college debate experience, are absolutely encouraged to apply as well.
Pay is $30+ per classroom hour, with some paid prep at a lower rate, and tournament days paid as per diem. The right candidate can expect a maximum of 12-15 classroom hours a week, depending on scheduling, enrollment, etc, with a minimum time commitment of 6 hours on site a week. Additionally, there will be multiple tournament days throughout the year and, as mentioned, some paid prep.
To be considered for employment, candidates must be available most weekend days, as that is when most of the work will be.

About: C&T Youth Technology Academy is a non-profit youth learning center focused on technology-based coursework not found within the traditional education system. Through specialized classes and innovative lessons, students build on the foundations of education and practical life skills to prepare for college and beyond. In addition to computer skills, math, writing and global education, students build confidence, maturity and education to achieve academic and social success.
Position: Debate Coach
Responsibilities: Coach high school public forum debaters; teach a middle school debate class (not a competition team). Prep students for national public forum tournaments & attend such tournaments. Each year we go to at least 3-4 tournaments out of the state, e.g. Harvard, Yale, etc. Tournaments generally take up an entire weekend. The position requires someone who is comfortable with a lot of freedom and familiar with high school public forum debate. There is no set curriculum. As the coach, you will have free reign over the entire program.
Compensation: Based on experience/ education. Qualified candidates will likely start with at least 30+/ hr. The coach will also be paid a flat rate for each competition he/she attends. Finally, money spent on room/board & transportation while attending a tournament will be reimbursed.
Time Commitment: 5-6 hrs/ week, potentially more if there is an upcoming competition
